In celebration of International Women’s Day, The Zipporah Foundation, in partnership with the American University of Nigeria (AUN), embarked on a transformative outreach to Government Secondary School Jemita in Yola, Adamawa State. The outreach aimed not only to commemorate the global day celebrating women’s achievements but also to directly empower young women through access to essential hygiene products and education.

A Day of Impact and Empowerment

On March 8th, a team of dedicated volunteers and partners came together to distribute sanitary pads to 259 young female students. This effort was about more than just giving out supplies—it was an opportunity to address a critical issue that affects the health, dignity, and education of countless girls across Nigeria: menstrual hygiene.

Many young women in underserved communities often face challenges managing their periods due to a lack of access to sanitary products, knowledge, and safe disposal methods. The consequences are far-reaching—ranging from school absenteeism to health complications, and even social stigma. This outreach aimed to break that cycle.

Practical Education Meets Compassionate Care

The distribution was accompanied by interactive educational sessions where the girls were taught:

  • How to properly use sanitary pads
  • Safe and hygienic disposal practices
  • Why menstrual health matters for their overall wellbeing

These sessions were handled with care and sensitivity, ensuring that the girls felt seen, heard, and supported. The goal was to normalize conversations around menstruation and foster confidence in the girls to manage their periods without shame.

Why This Matters

Access to menstrual products and education is a basic human right—yet it remains out of reach for many. This outreach reflected The Zipporah Foundation’s commitment to promoting the health, dignity, and rights of vulnerable teenagers, especially young girls. By collaborating with the American University of Nigeria and focusing on community-led impact, the outreach highlighted the power of partnerships in creating sustainable change. It was a reminder that small acts of kindness—like providing a pack of sanitary pads—can ripple out to create big changes in a young girl’s life.

The success of the Yola outreach is only the beginning. Zipporah Foundation remains dedicated to expanding its reach, deepening its impact, and standing alongside young people in underserved communities across Nigeria. Together with like-minded partners, the foundation will continue to champion education, health, and empowerment for the next generation.

Every pad given was more than a product—it was a message that these girls matter. And that’s the kind of impact Zipporah Foundation is here to make.
